A Dynamic Channel Model of UWB-WBAN for Some Medical Applications
نویسندگان
چکیده
In hospitals patients and other medical facilities have various levels of mobility, e.g., walking, wheelchairing, eating, etc. There is also growing evidence that for most medical conditions having patients move or walk, as much as they can tolerate, will improve their health. With keeping this in mind, not only static wireless body area network (WBAN) radio channels usually investigated, but also dynamic scenarios due to the effect of body motion must be considered. The contribution of the work described in this paper is to expand the knowledge of the ultra-wideband (UWB) channel in the frequency range of 3.1-10 GHz in close proximity of a dynamic human body. Based on experimental measurements a two-state alternating Weibull renewal process is modelled for the dynamic fade characteristics of the channel. The model can then be used to better design communication network protocols for WBANs.

UWB Channel Characteristics in the Proximity of a Dynamic Human Body for WBAN Medical Applications
It is reasonable to assume that patients in hospitals and other medical facilities have various levels of mobility, e.g., walking, wheelchairing, eating, etc. There is also growing evidence that for most medical conditions having patients move or walk, as much as they can tolerate, will improve their health. Wireless body area networks (WBAN) are being considered as the enabling technology that...
متن کاملChannel modeling for UWB WBAN on-off body communication link with finite integration technique
Comprehensive knowledge of the channel and accurate channel models are essential in the optimized system design. In the Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) applications, use of Ultra Wideband (UWB) transmission as well as close presence of human body, bring their own major challenges in the channel modeling. Several channel models have been proposed and numerous channel measurement campaigns have...
متن کاملUWB Channel Modeling for Wireless Body Area Networks in Medical Applications
Wireless body area networks (WBAN) are expected to be a breakthrough technology in healthcare areas such as hospital and home care, telemedicine, and physical rehabilitation. Because the human body has a complex shape consisting of different tissues it is expected that the nature of the propagation of electromagnetic signals in the case of WBAN to be very different than the one found in other e...
متن کاملEmpirical modeling of intra-BAN ranging errors based on IR-UWB TOA estimation
In this paper we present a model accounting for dynamic intra-Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) ranging errors based on Impulse Radio-Ultra Wideband (IR-UWB) Time Of Arrival (TOA) estimation in the [3.1, 5.1]GHz and [3.75, 4.25]GHz frequency bands. The latter is compliant with one mandatory band imposed by the IEEE 802.15.6 standardization group. Relying on time-variant on-body channel measurem...
متن کاملThe UWB Channel in Medical Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs)
UWB is a technology that has several advantages when considered for a Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN). A WBAN is a network with its communications devices in very close proximity to the human body. In medical applications these devices are connected to sensors that can monitor vital signs such as ECG, temperature, and mobility. A WBAN allows for the remote monitoring of a patient’s health min...
